NCHD's Mission and Goal ... |
|
To promote Human Development by supporting
Government Line Departments, Non-Governmental Organizations
and elected officials at the district level in primary education,
literacy and provision of basic healthcare services. NCHD
is a fast-track initiative to improve social sector outcomes
at the grassroots. The goal of the Commission is to fill the
implementation gaps and improve public sector delivery mechanisms
to achieve the MDGs.

Internally Displaced Persons
In
the wake of ongoing military operation in NWFP and resultant
displacement of millions of people, National Commission for
Human Development (NCHD) responded to the communities in their
need of hour by initiating various relief activities on war-footing
basis in the fields of Health, Education and other relief
services in close coordination with District Government, Mardan.
- Established
eight transitional schools for the children of IDPs in which
over 1000 children had been enrolled.
- Established
12 Mobile Medical Units supported by a Base Camp to provide
basic healthcare services to IDPs.
- Distributed
200 Footballs among the children in IDPs camp.
- Provided
emergency relief to almost 4,500. click

Highlights
of 6th Meeting of the Special Committee on NCHD, March 09, 2009 |
A
national consultative workshop on literacy was organised by
NCHD in collaboration with UNESCO and Ministry of Education.
The workshop was held on 17-18 February, 2009 at the Planning
Commission Auditorium in Islamabad.
Chief Guest of the workshop
was Mrs. Faryal Talpur MNA, Chairperson Special Committee
on NCHD whereas prominentspeakers included Mir Hazar Khan
Bajarani, Federal Minister for Education, Ms. Shehnaz Wazir
Ali Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Social Sector,
Mr. Maurice Robson Director UNESCO Pakistan, Dr. Muhammad
Saleem Deputy Education Advisor Ministry of Education, Mr.
Arshad Saeed Senior Program Officer UNESCO and Mr. Zulfiqar
Ahmed COO NCHD.

Special Committee meeting was chaired by Mrs. Faryal Talpur
MNA, Chairperson Special Comittee on NCHD. Decisions taken
in the meeting are as follows:

Approval of the recommendations of the Lietracy
Committee
- Budget
for Education & Literacy: Special Committee
recommended allocation of 4% of GNP and 10% of the
total budget of Education Sector for Adult Literacy
of Pakistan.
- Allocation
for Literacy:
Block allocation for financing of Adult Literacy Program
should be reflected in the National Budget.
- Number
of Literacy Centers & PC-1:
NCHD should prepare PC-1 for three years establishing
67,500, 52,500, 52,500 centers per year respectively.

- Bringing About Social Change with its Door-to-Door Campaigns
|
NCHD
has been officially declared as lead agency for the spread
of literacy programmes in the country by the President of
the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
The
2006 UNESCO International Reading Association Literacy Prize
has been awarded to NCHD for its National Literacy Program.
